Laws and regulations

New e-commerce rules from June 19, 2026

On June 19, 2026, updated EU regulations will come into effect to strengthen consumer protection in online commerce.

For you as an e-commerce merchant, this mainly means a clarified requirement regarding how customers can exercise their right of withdrawal.

Requirement for an online withdrawal function

Customers must be able to withdraw from their purchase directly online in a simple and clear way.

This means your webshop needs to offer a function where the customer can:

  • notify that they want to withdraw from their purchase
  • provide information that allows the order to be identified
  • receive confirmation that the request has been received

The function must be easy to find and use.

The right of withdrawal itself remains unchanged

The right of withdrawal itself is unchanged:

  • The consumer normally has 14 days to withdraw from a purchase
  • For certain types of agreements, other timeframes apply (e.g. 30 days), as before

What does this mean for you as a Talex user?

The Talex platform already provides the ability to meet these requirements, for example by:

  • creating a return/withdrawal page
  • linking to it from the order confirmation or website
  • handling requests manually via email (or form)

If you prefer a more automated and integrated solution (e.g. a form linked to orders with automatic confirmation), this can be set up as an add-on service.

European Accessibility Act (EAA) 2025

Starting June 28, 2025, many e-commerce businesses will be required to ensure their digital services are accessible to everyone, in compliance with the EU's new accessibility directive, the European Accessibility Act (EAA). The directive mandates that digital services must be usable by all individuals, regardless of ability, including users with impaired vision, hearing, or cognitive functions. However, micro-enterprises — businesses with fewer than 10 employees or annual revenue under 2 million euros — are exempt from these requirements.

Accessible E-commerce Adds Value for All Customers

Creating an accessible online store is not just about meeting legal requirements; it can also enhance the user experience for all visitors. By adapting your e-commerce platform to comply with EAA guidelines, you can reach more customers, create an inclusive shopping experience, and strengthen your brand. Additionally, these improvements can positively impact your visibility in search engines, attracting more visitors to your website.

Talex is ready to support you in meeting the EAA requirements. Our e-commerce platform offers flexible solutions to ensure your online store is both user-friendly and accessible. Contact us to find out how we can help you prepare for the new regulations and create a more inclusive e-commerce experience.

Product Safety Regulation (GPSR)

Starting December 13, 2024, new product safety regulations will come into effect within the EU/EEA under the Product Safety Regulation (GPSR). The regulation applies to all goods not covered by other harmonized EU legislation, such as furniture, clothing, and children’s products.

Key changes:

  • E-commerce and technology: Increased focus on product safety in online sales, including requirements for traceability and safety information on online platforms.
  • Economic actors: Companies must have internal processes for product safety, and products can only be sold if a responsible actor is established within the EU.
  • Traceability: Products must be labeled with the manufacturer's information and be identifiable to consumers.
  • Consumer rights: In case of recalls, consumers must be offered repair, replacement, or a refund. There must also be options for lodging complaints.
  • Accidents: Companies must report product-related accidents to the authorities.

Online marketplaces must ensure that sellers provide necessary information and take action on dangerous products. Additionally, clear labeling and safety information are required for distance selling.

More information is available on the Consumer Agency website.
